For Christmas of 2014, my family and I had the privilege of visiting San Jose del Cabo in Mexico for a few days. It was such a relaxing vacation full of warm sunshine and sparkling sea waves. We stayed in a beautiful beach house with an infinity pool and jacuzzi right on the edge of the water with a gorgeous view of the bright beach and azure ocean. The sound of the sea soothed me to sleep every night.
One day, we rode horses along a sandy beach trail all the way down to the water. Other days we paddle boarded with boards that we rented for a few days, or we sat on the sand watching the waves crash and soaking in the sunlight.
For meals, we either ate at the house or walked to Buzzard’s, an awesome little restaurant down the street from where we stayed. It is nice and casual with a tropical theme. All the food was fresh and full of flavor. Some of my favorites were the shrimp and scallop ceviche, which bursted with a combination of sour citrus and spicy habanero pepper; the coconut shrimp: breaded shrimp with a pina colada dipping sauce; and the Caprese salad: light and airy mozzarella cheese stacked on top of juicy tomatoes and crisp lettuce drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. The lemonade served at Buzzard’s was amazing because it was a little bit carbonated and mixed with lime juice. I also had some savory filet mignon and succulent sea bass. The creamy flan was the cherry on top of every meal at Buzzard’s.
Toward the end of our vacation, before we flew out, we walked around the town in Mexico and observed some pretty neat attractions and pieces of art. We ate breakfast at Habanero’s and then set out. The architecture of the buildings reflected the ancient history cradled in the town of Cabo and in Mexico. The beautiful buildings in all different colors were a pretty sight.
It was here that I finished reading All the Bright Places, which changed my life forever. It was here that my path to writing truly began, as this book led me to become a contributor to Germ, which has been a huge step in my young writing career. It was here that my passion for writing was renewed and where my first official “wander” took place. It was here that I began to develop my passion more. I guess you could say that it was here that I strengthened my connection to my passion of writing. This book spectacularly colored my Christmas vacation, and it also strengthened my connection to my passion of reading. It is now one of my most favorite stories.
