When I was a kid, Disney Princess movies were my favorite to watch. I loved how every princess had different qualities that little girls could relate to. I saw myself in Belle from Beauty and the Beast, who loves to read. Then there’s Cinderella, who inspired me to believe that dreams do come true. Soon, a new princess will join Disney’s fine roster of royalties, and she is sure to catch your heart!
Disney announced that Princess Elena lives “in an enchanted fairytale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore.” Princess Elena will be introduced in a special episode of Disney Junior’s hit show Sofia the First before her own show, Elena of Alavor, debuts in 2016. Joining the Latina princess in her TV show are Elena’s grandparents, Tito and Cici, her adviser, Duke Esteban, and a wizard-in-training named Mateo.
According to a statement by Nancy Kanter, Disney Junior’s general manager, Elena of Avalor will portray stories that are “influenced by culture and traditions that are familiar to the worldwide population of Hispanic and Latino families and reflect the interests and aspirations of all children as told through a classic fairy tale.”
The 16-year-old Princess Elena will be voiced by Aimee Carrero from ABC Family’s Young and Hungry.
What do you think of this new addition to Disney, Germies? Are you as excited as I am to meet Princess Elena?
