You’re important. Sometimes it’s easy to forget that you are, but there are many ways to remind yourself. Become what you love. Wear what inspires you. Don’t let anyone stifle your flame.
It’s typical to see love in other people, to recognize others’ favorable traits and forget that we are loved as well. And of course, it feels good when someone loves you, even if you don’t know it.
“People say ‘I love you’ all the time — when they say, ‘take an umbrella, it’s raining’ or ‘hurry back’ or even, ‘watch out, you’ll break your neck’. There are hundreds of ways of wording it — you just have to listen for it, my dear.” – The Curious Savage
But, there is nothing more important than loving yourself.
As with many aspects in life, it’s much easier said than done. On a daily basis we hear others negating what we love, whether it’s our neighbor, a family member, the kids in your class, or even the newscaster telling everyone that we’ll get through another rainy day. Rainy days are not bad days. Consistently, others put down things that we admire, whether or not they know they’re doing it. Naturally, this can have a negative effect on the way you view yourself and what you love. Don’t let it.
Of course, there are going to be pushes against your beliefs, your hobbies, and your image, but we all weren’t meant to be cookie cutters from clay. We’re all different in our own way, and that’s what makes love so unique.
It is crucial to your well-being to love yourself and, once you love yourself, to let others love you too.
Subtle changes can make the biggest difference:
It’s the small things that matter. It’s wearing your colored socks a little bit higher than your boots, sporting a messy bun out on a Saturday night. It’s painting your hair a color that your mother doesn’t approve of, wearing your favorite old T-shirt more often than what some would call socially acceptable. But, most importantly, it’s putting the damn lipstick on.
Love your mind and body:
Mind and body go hand-in-hand. Fall in love with your body. Look at yourself in the mirror and notice the characteristics you enjoy. Touch them. Run your fingers over your skin and appreciate what you have, what you have been through, how hard you have fought for this body, this life.
Your body is forever changing. It’s important to get to know yourself in every age, every aspect and to love it. No two people are the same, and that’s what makes each and every one of us worth loving. Loving your body is crucial to loving your mind. Get rid of all of your negative thoughts about yourself. Let go of the past, let go of judgments, and let go of people who make you feel like you’re difficult to love. Detox your brain of the pessimism.
Just because your best friend doesn’t like your new acid-washed jeans doesn’t mean you should only wear them once. It means you should wear them every Thursday and worship your body when you’re in them.
.
People, no matter who they are, will try to stifle your flame, even if they don’t recognize that they are doing it. Don’t let them.
