The following is a featured 100-word story from the December Writing Challenge.

 

It was another night of missing you. And when my ceiling cracked — split in two — I wasn’t startled. The walls crumbled to the ground, until all was barren. The city sunk around me; I was the only thing for miles. Except — someone in the distance, awake on a little bed.
You lay sleepless, cheeks blue from the moon. Us — the only two things in the entire world, yet I couldn’t move to touch you. This was the closest I would ever be. You stared blankly up to the stars, your mind in another cosmos,
unreachable.
