Hollywood legend has it that in 1914, when Universal Studios’ President Carl Laemmle saw Australian actress Louise Carbasse’s screen test for Father and the Boys, her first American film, the enchanted studio executive dubbed her “Louise Lovely.” A darker side to the story, reported by Amber at IMDb, suggests that when Louise left Universal, the studio threatened to sue her if Lovely performed under that name elsewhere. Of course,we know that lovely isn’t something that can be taken away.
