When you are little, buying school supplies is one of the most exciting things about going back to school. Deciding which pack of highlighters is better than the other, choosing the notebook with the flowers on the cover, the set of color coded note cards, and so on. As you get older, though, the thrill starts to wear off. Pretty soon it’s just another binder, another folder, another pack of pencils. The newness is gone, and everything becomes routine.
So how about adding something different to the mix? Bringing some of that newness back might not be a bad way to start the school year!
This unique pencil pouch could be the answer. This is great for storing pencils for school, and you could also fill it with colored pencils and make it a gift for a friend who is an aspiring artist. One of the wonderful things about this is how easy it is to make. If you can handle a pair of scissors, you can most definitely handle this.
- Cut out a rectangle piece of felt to the size of your choice. Mine was about 1 ft. by 8 in.
- Place the rectangle of felt horizontally.
- Cut 1 long slit in the felt going left to right, about one inch from the sides and the top
- Cut 3 more slits of the same length below. Each slit should be separated by about an inch.
- Sew the end of a ribbon to the shorter end of the felt. This will be used to fasten the pencil pouch.
- Weave the pencils into the slits you have created.
- You can then roll up the felt and tie it with the ribbon to put it in a more compact form.
- You are finished!
