Remember when you were a kid? Remember how unbelievably excited you were about the grown-up life ahead of you? How colorful your dreams and how high your hopes were? The world was big and bright and spectacular, and all you wanted to do was to go and explore it!
Then, perhaps, the reality of this world pricked you, just as Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger with that needle. You became disappointed and hurt. You received your first rejection. You gave up. You started to believe that you are too small and your dreams are too big, so why waste your life chasing opportunities that will never be yours? Just like Sleeping Beauty, you fell asleep. Lethargy crept in, and your life became a routine, just a meaningless repetition of things. Your relationships became cautious. You didn’t trust people anymore. You were too afraid to get hurt and decided that it’s better to not feel at all, so now you try to live your life under some kind of dome, where everything is safe and certain.
But then one day you realize: You were so careful, so blind, so asleep that you missed your life. Your fears kept you in prison — just a bird in a gold cage. But you never sang; you just watched how others brought your dreams to life.
If any of this has rung true with you, then, my dear Germies, today I want to tell you that disappointment is a part of life; and, yes, sometimes you will fall. Yes, sometimes life will slap you right in the face. But! We are strong. We can stand up. We can dream, and we can fulfill our dreams because we are believers, dreamers, and ultimately hopeful creatures!
So instead of giving up, wake up! Look around! See how beautiful the world is. Look at how many adventures there are out there! Don’t let your demons win. Don’t let your circumstances change you. Take my hand, and let’s go on this adventure together!
P.S. Here is one of my favorite videos of all time, and one of the most honest sentiments of all time. Just know that you’re not alone!
