My soles have walked the earth a hundred times over,
and over time have walked.
Miles of moonlight,
Scores of sunshine,
Running after rain,
Wading in wind,
Counting currents
backwards
and forwards,
backwards
and forwards.
A
My soles have walked
Over rocks
Under darkness
Through broken windows,
tip-toeing in the light
falling through the shattered glass,
Onto uncertain paths
And out of certain danger.
A
My soles have walked,
no, leaped
with joy and
been lame with sorrow.
A
My soles are hardened by rough terrain
yet still know how
to dance.
A
My soles
Oh yes, my soul
has walked.

Rachel Kertz was born in a small town in Missouri in 1988. While earning her degree at Southeast Missouri State University, she became interested in photography and began using her commutes as excuses to go on long drives through the rural countrysides, hoping to find locations and abandoned houses to photograph. She hopes to convey relatable stories in her images that speak to her audience on themes such as loneliness, love, exploration, and the feeling of being alone in unconventionally beautiful places.
