The following is a featured 100-word story from the May Writing Challenge.
The hills sing with secrets today.
The trees shiver as the boy next to me slides his fingers in mine.
“Ruby,” he whispers, the promise of adventure on his lips.
When I start to run, all I can think of is his heart and mine, and the wings of creatures beating the winds behind us. He tells me not to look back, like I don’t know.
Since we are the heroes of this story, we turn around and face them, and they run from their king and queen.
When he kisses my lips, I am just Ruby, and I dissolve.
