flagToday marks the 13th anniversary of September 11th, and it also marks the first year that New York’s 9/11 Memorial Museum has been officially finished and opened to the public. Thirteen years is a long time, and many young children in America may not remember the events surrounding the day that thousands of people died on September 11, 2001. This museum, however, is a concrete, monumental way to keep the tragedy, bravery, and truth of what happened that day in the minds of American citizens for the years to come.

President Obama delivered the opening speech for the dedication of the museum (below), and it was a solemn and fitting tribute for the magnitude of the events that happened thirteen years ago. He spoke of individuals who died in the attacks,  honored the first responders, and spoke of the memorial demonstrating the “true spirit of 9/11,” which he called “love, compassion, sacrifice.”

“Nothing,” he said, “can change who we are as Americans.”
