I thought I’d like to write a poem about you
No, it isn’t a love poem
I thought I’d like to write a poem for you
No, don’t mistake this for a peace offering
I thought I’d write a poem to you
But the poem’s sharp edges would cut through your skin—
No,
Through your ego—
So quickly your blood would spill out—
No,
Your misogyny—
You’d bleed purple in places you didn’t know existed,
Places only woman knows,
A river of history and shameful decisions
But you were the first one on the houseboat
It is your river,
Alone.
I thought I’d write a poem to you
But poetry wasn’t meant to be wasted
Sophia Hu is a 15-year-old high school student with a passion for poetry and creative writing. Growing up in East Brunswick, New Jersey, she developed a voracious appetite for reading and wishes she were Junie B. Jones. She also loves to play golf, take photos, and volunteer in her community.
Rebecca is 20 years old and lives in a little village in Germany. She started taking photos six years ago when her dad got a camera for his birthday. It was fascinating for her to see what different things he was able to capture — emotions, plants, animals — and she wanted to try it herself. The best part of photography for her is that she can express her feelings and tell stories through it, and she hopes that people feel something when they look at them. See more of her work on Flickr.
