For those of us who share our Netflix Account with multiple people (mine include some family and friends), there are some shows and movies that we would rather other people not know we watch. Personally, I’ve seen the show Pretty Wild one too many times, and while I’m not ashamed of it, I can see why other people might be.
The idea is that when Privacy Mode is turned on, things watched won’t show up on your “Recently Watched” list. A select group of Netflix users are getting the trial run of the feature at the moment, and hopefully Privacy Mode works well enough to become a standard option for all users.
Cliff Edwards, the company’s new director of corporate communications and technology, describes the test feature like this:
“At Netflix we continuously test new things. In this case, we are testing a feature in which a user watching a movie or TV show can choose to view in “Privacy Mode.” Choosing that option means the program will not appear in your viewing activity log, nor will it be used to determine recommendations about what you should watch in the future.”
The test feature is being tested in all markets, and the tests could go on for months. However, there is a possibility that this feature will never go wide, which would be sad for those of us who don’t exactly want their grandmother to know that they went to film school just to sit and watch Pretty Wild for hours on end.
If you had the Privacy Feature on your Netflix, what would you hide? Sound off in the comments!
