She wandered the empty hallways of Middletown High. She noticed how big the school was without the students. The classrooms, lockers, auditorium, and even the walls seemed bigger and more blue. Cayden took one last glimpse at the walls and dumped her bag of supplies onto the floor. It was the end of the school year and no one was in the building, not even the security guards. Cayden wanted to make a good memory at Middletown, but she wanted to make that memory in a way that no one, not even herself, would forget. She opened up her bag and proceeded to take out her spray cans, two by two, each in a different color. The first color she picked was red. Shaking it well, Cayden started to spray on the main wall of the school. One by one, the colors started to come together and began to look like some of her best work yet. It was only 11pm when she finished. Cayden looked at her artwork one last time and felt proud of herself.

When she cleaned up and started heading towards the exit, there was a noise echoing, causing Cayden to panic. She quietly tip-toed to see where the noise was coming from. As soon as she turned the corner, she saw the back of a person. It was the back of a guy. This guy was a student at Middletown, and Cayden knew because she recognized him in the hallways during school. She didn’t know his name, however. Cayden stood there, watching him spray paint the walls. And, he was good at it, she thought to herself. When he finished his work, the guy turned around and jumped at the sight of Cayden. He was completely scared, not to mention feeling guilty.

He pleaded, “Please don’t rat me out.”

She laughed and replied, “Only if you don’t tell on me.”

The young man smiled and reached his stained hand out to her. “My name is Mike,” he politely said.

“Cayden,” she said back.

The two became acquainted, talking for hours. And they never stopped, not even once. Who knew that two people could ever meet during their last days in high school. For Cayden and Michael, this was only just the beginning.
