The Beauty of Optimism

In April of this year, I resigned from my job at a prestigious international school here in the Philippines to pursue my dream of working in the media industry. It was scary because I was effectively starting over again. Nevertheless, I sent applications to different companies with hopes of hearing from them the soonest. I heard back from some while I didn’t from others. I went to job interviews, which were okay, but didn’t receive feedback days or weeks later. I started to worry that it might take a long time for me to get a job again.

But then I didn’t give up. I continued sending applications every day until one company responded to me in a flash. The HR personnel sent me a writing exam — three 500-word feature articles — with a 24-hour deadline. I brainstormed as soon as I received the guidelines, woke up early the next day, and wrote my heart out. The exam was challenging, but I had fun writing the articles! I submitted them before the deadline, and then after a couple of minutes, I got a text message inviting me for an interview with the HR specialist and the editor-in-chief of the company’s Content Marketing Department. The interviews went well. I really had a good feeling about the job. Besides, it was also my dream to work in the company for as long as I could remember. The next thing I knew, they were offering me the job!

Fast forward to today: I’m now employed (yay!) in the Philippines’ leading magazine publishing company. I’ve been working there for a month now, and I still can’t believe that I’m living my dream. One thing I’ve learned from this experience is to never give up! Always keep a positive outlook even if you’re feeling hopeless. Dreams do come true, dear readers! Believe in yourself. Believe in your dream.
