I take a deep breath, looking up. I hold the pages against me. Am I ready? I push open the door to the building, the grey brick exterior now behind me. This started as an assignment, there’s no need to go on. But, Mr. Haverman did say I should let someone see it, right? I made an appointment, and the elevator pushes me up through the building into the office. I hug the manuscript tighter. The elevator opens, the publishing logo blazes into my brain. A secretary looks up, smiling. “Mr. Langston’s waiting.” So am I now. Book and all.
