“Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald
Well, it’s officially that time of year again. After spending the past three months soaking up the endless rays of the summer sun, we’re forced to hang up our beach towels and resume our ever-increasing list of responsibilities. Instead of wasting away summer days and chasing summer nights, we find ourselves drowning in homework, attending boring meetings, and ultimately counting down the days until next summer; but, we shouldn’t fret because fall is right around the corner. Fall is honestly my favorite season of the year. There’s just something about the days getting shorter, the weather getting colder, and the leaves turning their vibrant hues that makes my heart feel all warm and cozy inside my chest. It’s one of the greatest times of the year, and here are a few reasons why.
Friday Night Lights
Nothing says “hello, fall” like sitting in the stands on a Friday night cheering on your favorite team. Football will forever be a sport of comradery and community. In some towns, attending a Friday night football game is the biggest social event of the year. It’s the perfect place to catch up with friends and root for the beloved boys of fall. There’s truly nothing like the smell of fresh cut grass and roaring crowds to wash away your summertime blues and introduce you to all the wonders fall can bring. However, like fall, the Friday Night Lights only come around once a year, so grab a cozy blanket and a hot beverage and bask in the utter glory that is Friday night football.
Pumpkin Spice Everything
A signature item of fall is absolutely a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks. This fall-themed beverage has been a consistent seasonal favorite since they were first introduced a few years ago. Since then, other coffee shops and food brands have put their own unique twist on pumpkin spice. For example, Oreos now sell a pumpkin spice-flavored cookie. M&Ms created a pumpkin spice chocolate confection, and I have even encountered pumpkin spice waffles. Needless to say, pumpkin spice has taken fall by storm, and it is the perfect thing to put you in the autumnal spirit.
Sweater Weather
Depending on where you live, you may or may not experience a true fall when it comes to weather conditions. The ideal fall weather would be temperatures in the 50s and 60s with an occasional blustery day: the perfect weather for dawning your favorite sweater. Unfortunately, I rarely receive these weather conditions in the hot and humid state of Texas. Still, on the rare occasions that fall weather does come to Texas, I never turn down a chance to sport my favorite sweater. It’s like wearing a comfy blanket all day long. So, if you’ve been blessed with wonderful fall weather, do not hesitate to take advantage of it because, before you know it, the rays of summer will once again be upon us.
Happy Fall, Germies! Make it a great one.
