One of the hardest lessons we need to accept is who we are. Accepting every detail– our shape, our color, our hair type, every part of our body– is our most precious jewel in the world. What brings a questioning, that sometimes, I don’t know why, is to be kind to people. To know how to give advice (or try) and help other people more than we help ourselves. It is so much easier to tell someone how beautiful they look, how much you love them. It’s so light and simple to be able to tell people how you feel, how she really is, every detail, it’s as if you could paint, the body, your model, moving the brush delicately across her soft skin, coloring that picture, that you could stay all day admiring that work of art.

The devastating thing is that we often jump off the cliff for people, we are their lifeguard, we are their talking mirror, but we never manage to return to our self. Maybe because it scares us to deal with who we are, with our faults. Maybe because it is scary to look in the mirror and not like what we see. Maybe because it is torturous to say nice things to people when they are the kind of people who kill our self-esteem, when that kind of person is our real dream, our favorite role model.

This is how we should be with ourselves, to love every line of our body, to let the water flow across every face of us, to let the ray of the sun be reborn and illuminate our imperfections and perfection.

~ LUÍSA D’ARAUJO

There is a certain irony in all this– while we say nice things to other people, we often say it to them wanting to say it to ourselves. So actually, if you think about it, is that we say it to other people, but actually the meaning and value of those words are about you, us. It is us. The path of loving yourself, of stopping self-sabotaging is full of ups and downs, even because we live surrounded by wires that keep holding us in this field full of perfect people, with perfect bodies, with the color of perfect eyes. It is a real massacre for our soul, for our mind, for our living.

But the truth is that every day you will find a different part of yourself, and the first step is not to say that we don’t like it, just as we meet a person even if our intuition says we don’t like him/her, we say hello, we are polite even if inside us it is a stab in our heart. This is how we should be with ourselves, to love every line of our body, to let the water flow across every face of us, to let the ray of the sun be reborn and illuminate our imperfections and perfection. It is to leave the path to love yourself, always in the first place. It is to throw yourself off the cliff and find extraordinary parts of yourself. It is to understand that your words are kindnesses to this world, that your form is a sculpture in the middle of this modern age. It is to understand that despite the regrets there is no one like you.
