you point your finger gun at your head
with a laugh
because you think it’s funny
yet you’re unaware of the fact that it’s loaded
loaded with people’s grief
loaded with people’s past attempts
and loaded with people’s current pain
so what is there really to gain
put the finger gun away
it’s twenty twenty three
why are we still joking about suicide
let’s decide
to think of more clever ways to get a laugh
because you don’t know people’s pain
or what your friend who sits beside you has been through
or is going through
so instead
stop yourself and be more present
ask more questions
check in on the friend who sits beside you
and let go of the trigger

Hi there! I’m Grace and I am so happy to be a part of the Germ family. I honestly cannot believe it, reading about Germ Magazine in a book world that Jennifer Niven created and now to be writing for it feels like a dream, and I am so grateful. I live in San Diego, California, with my husband and my dog, whom I adore. Life wouldn’t be the same without those two. I am currently writing my first book all about grief and trauma and love and loss, and all things in between. I love putting pen to paper and letting my thoughts live outside of my brain – it is so therapeutic for me. I hope you find meaning in the writings you find here at Germ. We’re all in this together. Thank you for being here.
