The following is a featured 100-word story from the December Writing Challenge.

 

The snow made it easy for the little boy to walk over the footprints of his dad. Taking long strides, he placed his feet exactly where his dad’s had been a while ago.
The amused father looked at the snow trail his shoes had marked and then the outline of small feet that were sticking out of his footprints.
“What are you doing, son?” asked the man.
“I am trying to be like you, Dad,” replied the boy.

The father smiled, held his son’s hand, and walked back home. An unlit cigarette turned cold behind them buried in the snow.
